Mercaptor Community Service Project 2: Donate Journals to Domestic Violence Victims in Collaboration with Pink Concussions

On December 23, 2017, Mercaptor Discoveries donated 25 journals to survivors of domestic violence in shelters and transition homes with the Center for Domestic Peace (C4DP). The journals will be used by domestic violence survivors to write their own personal stories or, if they choose, they can write their concussion story by following the writing prompt posted on the Pink Concussions website (http://www.pinkconcussions.com/share-your-story/). Mercaptor research team member Esme Ponce got verbal permission (over the phone on November 22, 2017) from Katherine Snedaker to translate the writing prompt from English to Spanish and provided the writing instructions with the journals. Writing is very therapeutic for people recovering from repeated traumatic set of events. If the women who decided to write their concussions stories want to share, they will then e-mail their stories to Katherine for a chance to have it featured in a published book. Esme was in contact with Marla Hedlund, Development and Community Relations Officer and Emma Falley with C4DP and Katherine Snedaker, Executive Officer of Pink Concussions.

Mercaptor Discoveries is excited to help highlight this issue because TBI and concussions are often overlooked in domestic violence survivors. Giving back to a community affected by head trauma was a natural fit for us.
